EDU MINISTRY COLLECTING DATA ON TEACHERS OPTING FOR EARLY RETIREMENT

Senior Education Minister Datuk Dr Radzi Jidin said as such, the ministry is looking into details on the reason behind why these teachers had opted for early retirement

IPOH: The number of teachers who opt for early retirement is almost equal to the rate of those who are on compulsory retirement.

Senior Education Minister Datuk Dr Radzi Jidin said as such, the ministry is looking into details on the reason behind why these teachers had opted for early retirement.

"In general, the compulsory retirement rate of teachers is more or less the same as early retired teachers.

"We will look this matter thoroughly, not only from the number, but other details as well. We will share the outcome on this matter later.

"There is so much talk, so many patterns, and trends... and we are collecting data to know what are their reasons, how long they have been served including those who opt for early retirement," he said.

Radzi said this in a press conference after visiting Sekolah Kebangsaan (SK) Syed Idrus in Kampung Kuang Hilir, Chemor here today.

On Feb 17, Perak Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Saarani Mohamad urged teachers in the state not to opt for early retirement due to their fear of contracting Covid-19.

Saarani said he was shocked when he got to know about the matter from the district education officer and described educators as agents of change.

Saarani said he fully understood if teachers apply for early retirement due to illness and medical conditions, but not for teachers who are in good health.
