TECHNOLOGY SHOULD BE PARALLEL WITH VALUES AND HUMAN NATURE - MASZLEE

GEORGE TOWN, May 15 (BERNAMA) -- Though the country is gearing towards globalisation and Industrial Revolution 4.0 (IR4.0),  yet it is equally important to adopt human nature and values, said Education minister Dr Maszlee Malik.
He added technology will be part of our life in the future, whereby each individual need to be wise to utilise it by implementing human-based education.
“In facing IR4.0, they should be equipped beforehand with skills such as empathy and ability to work with others, which makes them as human and not as robots solely,” he said in his speech at the Appreciation and Teacher’s Day Exhibition in conjunction with Festival Guru Malaysia 2019 here today.
In addition, Maszlee added that if the technology taught did not include values and mankind characteristics, then it would cause one falling prey to negative ideology such as violence.
“Recently, we were caught by surprise over the arrests of suspected terrorists in the country. We thought this issue is over in Middle East, apparently there are still some in Malaysia. This ideology should be handled focusing on compassion, happiness and respect for each other.
“When there is no love, then an individual is easily swayed to extremist ideology. They do not love themselves and being dead is not an issue. Most importantly, they achieve their ideology,” he added.
In another development, Maszlee also welcomed Yayasan Guru Malaysia Bhd (YGMB)’s effort to introduce a group accident protection scheme for teachers who accompany students in their own vehicles to programmes held outside their school.
“As we are aware, YGMB has forged a step to collaborate with the ministry in encouraging activities to nurture welfare, and to dignify the teaching profession. Therefore, I hope all parties will give their cooperation and strong support to YGMB including teachers,” he added.
